Scoring

How do you win the Volvo Ocean Race?
The event will use a high scoring system e.g. in a 10-boat competition, 50 points will be awarded to the winner of each leg - the equivalent of 5 points for each entry. The overall winner will be the team with the most points at the end of the race. All legs will count with no discards allowed.

The same system using 'single points' will be used for the In-Port racing, accounting for approximately 20% of the total points on offer.

For example:  if 7 entries start the In-Port race in Alicante, the winner of the In-Port race will be awarded 7 points (7 x 1); the winner of leg one will be awarded 35 points (7 x 5). Subsequently the second boat will be awarded 6 points for the In-Port Race and 30 points for the leg - and so on. Points throughout the race will be based on the number of entries at the start of the first In-Port race in Alicante.

For the exact scoring details, see "Section F - Scoring and Prizes - 22. Scoring" in the Notice of Race.
