How to follow the race

You don’t have to be onboard one of our Volvo Open 70s to find out what’s going on out on the racecourse. There are plenty of ways you can follow the racing at home and on the move.

All the action of in-port racing and leg starts will be streamed through your browser with enhanced 3D graphics via our new Livestream service:

Race Blog

For in-port racing and leg starts, the Volvo Ocean Race team will be sending up to the minute reports to our ScribbleLive blog from dockside, out on the racecourse and from Race HQ. You can join the conversation on the blog, which begins in the morning on the day of the event.


Race Trackers

During in-port racing, the VirtualEye 3D Interactive Raceviewer will be available on the home page during the live stream, and you will be able to go back over the action of each race in the archive. This programme requires the installation of the Unity plugin.

The Géovoile 2D Race Tracker will plot the course of the fleet during the race legs, updating every three hours, showing the same weather information used by the fleet, and featuring geocontent from the boats. The tracker will be available for the start of Leg 1.

Our list of broadcasters is growing every week, and you can check whether your local station will have live coverage on our TV Broadcasters listing under TV Schedule in the Fan Zone, or check your local TV listings.

We have a full menu of 43 hours of programming available including the live in-port races and leg starts and taped highlights shows.

Our series of nine one-hour documentaries from each of the offshore legs will focus on the human drama, strategy and head-to-head racing on the open seas as the crews push their Volvo Open 70s to the limit to win crucial points on each leg.

13 half-hour highlight shows of the leg starts and in-port races will provide a fast-paced summary of the weekend’s action in each host port.

Our weekly podcast will go out every Friday with news, interviews and a roundup of the week's happenings.


The Volvo Ocean Race Game

More than 220,000 players took part in the previous edition of our virtual race and this time it will be bigger, faster, more engaging and more addictive than ever. Improvements include more accurate wind data, new polars based on the Volvo Open 70 rule, features like auto-sail, auto-angle and waypoints, and an app for Android and iOS. The game will also be playable on Facebook, and we have some great prizes. The official warm-up regatta starts on October 29, and Leg 1 starts 5 November. The Volvo Ocean Race App 2011-12

For Android and iOS, this edition features a Race Tracker with multimedia geocontent, plus latest positions, weather, news, videos and emails from the boats and will be the way to keep up to date with fleet progress when you are on the move. The app will be available on iTunes in time for the start of the race on 5 November.
