CAMPER claim Pro-Am victory in Itajaí
Chris Nicholson's CAMPER with Emirates Team New Zealand won the day in the Itajaí Pro-Am Racing just 72 hours after finishing Leg 5 in fourth place.
The CAMPER shore crew worked tirelessly to get the boat back to full racing trim when the team arrived in Itajaí on Tuesday, 12 days behind leg winners PUMA Ocean Racing powered by BERG after being forced to stop for repairs in Chile.
CAMPER finished second in the first of three light airs windward leeward races which saw the race crews joined on board by guests, many of whom were able to help sail the boats. Two wins in the next two heats saw them claim overall Pro-Am victory ahead of second placed Telefónica, Groupama in third and PUMA in fourth.
Tomorrow these four teams will be joined in the DHL In-Port Race Itajaí by Ian Walker´s Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing who have also had to hustle to complete repairs in time.
