Race fans were able to get even closer to the thrilling action of the Leg 7 finale with a series of live video calls taking place today.

We’re going live to each of the boats to find out the very latest news and views from the skippers, sailors and MCMs as the race from Miami to Lisbon enters its final 24 hours.

The live video calls are streamed here on the homepage, with a live blog running alongside, plus at our Livestream page.

Here's what Richard Mason, watch captain on Sanya, had to say:

“Our motto on board is ‘send it or sink it’ and we’ve been giving the mighty Sanya Lan a hell of a hard time. We’ve been close to other boats, we’ve been sailing inside of CAMPER for a few days now, and we’ve been giving everything. We’re stretched out and it’s just been a little bit about boat speed in the last day or so but we’re hoping the fleet will compress and we can give these guys a run for their money.”

Andrew Cape, navigator, Telefónica:

“We’ve been shafted by the weather twice, big time, and I’d say we made one bad decision earlier in the leg, but apart from that we’ve been racing pretty well. It was always going to be a hard leg, it’s a tricky leg, it’s a good leg! The fleet’s about to stop, reshuffle again, and there’s our chance to come good again.”

Chris Nicholson, skipper, CAMPER with Emirates Team New Zealand:

“We’re getting closer to the finish and things are getting pretty tight out here. We’ve got Telefónica about half a mile down to leeward. We could chuck a tennis ball over to them as we go past them. We have 360 miles to go and with this ridge coming up there are some interesting strategies coming up. It’s not too clear yet. It’s one where you want to keep your enemies close.”

Franck Cammas, skipper, Groupama sailing team:

“This position is good and after the ridge we can finish with a better angle. The only problem, and it’s the same for everyone, is how we pass through the ridge. For us the best option is to go straight to Lisbon on the south course for now. We were as little bit lucky with the weather because we surfed a front for two days, and we have a very good boat in reaching and downwind conditions too.”

Ken Read, PUMA Ocean Racing powered by BERG:

“It’s a little scary out here right now to be honest. Two days ago we were better than just back in the regatta but as always with sailboat racing things change and weather doesn’t pan out and now we find ourselves in a very precarious spot. The guys behind us have literally been able to do things that we couldn’t do because we were ahead of them. It’s the sport we play in and we have to persevere. The next 36 hours will be very telling in this regatta.”

Rob Greenhalgh, Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing

"Being in the lead is always hard and this leg it has been harder than ever. But we are always pleased to be leading -- we haven’t had much of that in this race. We have chosen to put ourselves in the north and we are hoping it works out for us. Some have chosen the south and everyone is committed now. We will just have to see how it works."
