Volvo Ocean Race design team honoured prior to book launch
The creative team behind the look and feel of the Volvo Ocean Race have won a top design award just as the race prepares to unveil its official coffee-table book.
“So much fantastic imagery has been generated by the race and the leaderboard battles just make it more exciting” - Dimitris Koliadimas, Designers United
Designers United, headed up by Greek graphic designers Dimitris Koliadimas & Dimitris Papazoglou, are responsible for the designs of many features of the Volvo Ocean Race including popular Race Village attractions like the 3D Cinema and Volvo Open 70 simulator.
In recognition of their work, the agency was awarded an In Book award at the prestigious D&AD Awards 2012.
Designers United’s latest project has been to craft the graphics for the official Volvo Ocean Race book, due to be released post-race.
Still in development, the book features the very best images captured over nine months of intense competition in what has been the closest ever Volvo Ocean Race, presented in a stunning, high quality publication.
“So much fantastic imagery has been generated by the race and the leaderboard battles just make it more exciting,” said Dimitris Koliadimas, the book’s creative director. “It's a really demanding yet joyful challenge to put it all together in one publication.”
Stay tuned to www.volvooceanrace.com for more details on the forthcoming release.

A two-week stopover is a huge anti-climax to a fantastic race! It is taking all the excitment out of the race. Why is the stopver so long? Especially considering the teams are not allowed to haul their boats?! Any comments, VOR team?
