CAMPER’s Hamish Hooper scooped his third Inmarsat Media Crew Member Award, while Team Sanya were given the DHL Shore Crew Award and Brad Marsh was honoured with the Abu Dhabi Seamanship Award at the prize giving ceremony in Lorient.

Hooper received the award for his outstanding overall multimedia output during a stormy Leg 8 and in particular some breath taking footage of skipper Chris Nicholson being washed from the wheel by a wall of water.

The judges noted two outstanding pieces of recent video from Hooper, who clocked up enormous numbers of YouTube views with footage of Chuny Bermúdez dodging a whale and skipper Chris Nicholson being washed off the wheel.

Hooper, who had previously won two MCM leg awards, saw off competition from fellow nominees Groupama sailing team’s Yann Riou and PUMA Ocean Racing powered by BERG’s Amory Ross to claim the Leg 8 acolade.

Sanya´s technical shore crewmanager Nick Bice received the DHL Shore Crew Award from Jean-Claude Delen, CEO for Benelux & France, DHL Global Forwarding, for the outstanding work the small shore crew did in Lorient.

Groupama´s Marsh took the Abu Dhabi Seamanship Award after being nominated for climbing the mast three times to effect repairs in wild and windy conditions, acts that effective won the leg for the French team.

It was another double celebration for CAMPER with Emirates Team New Zealand, who went into the night knowing they had already won the IWC Schaffhausen Trophy for Leg 8 from Lisbon to Lorient thanks to their 24-hour run.

Franck Cammas’ Groupama sailing team took to the stage to be crowned winners of Leg 8, a home town victory which had drawn large crowds to watch their heroes arrive.

Groupama received the Leg 8 trophy from Jean-Noël Thénault, Regional MD Volvo Truck France.

Chris Nicholson’s CAMPER with Emirates team New Zealand were awarded the trophy for second place by Pascal Bellemans, President of Volvo Car Corporation, France.
