What is the Volvo Ocean Race? For 40 years, the Volvo Ocean Race has provided the ultimate test in sailing, providing human drama and sporting excitement on a scale like no other. For more information on the history of the race and the great sailors who have appeared in it, click HERE.
When is the next edition? The 12th edition of the Volvo Ocean Race will start from Alicante, Spain on October 4, 2014. The race will last around nine months, finishing in Gothenburg, Sweden with a final in-port race on June 27, 2015. For an easy-to-read table with exact dates, click HERE.

Where can I learn about the sailors? Six teams have been announced so far. The all-female Team SCA are the first all-women's team to compete in the race since 2001-02. Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing are once again skippered Britain's twice Olympic silver medallist Ian Walker. Dongfeng Race Team come from China and are backed by Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle. Team Brunel from the Netherlands are skippered by race veteran Bouwe Bekking. Team Alvimedica with a double flag Turkey/USA are the latest to confirm participation. The youth challenge will be lead by All American Ocean Racing. A Spanish entry has been confirmed and the name of the team will be announced shortly.
