Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) owns the Volvo Ocean Race-contesting outfit, Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing, is behind the emirate’s New Year 2015 hosting of the fleet in the UAE capital and is the Official Destination Partner of the race.
The authority is tasked with conserving and promoting the heritage and culture of Abu Dhabi emirate and leveraging them in the development of a world-class, sustainable destination of distinction, which enriches the lives of visitors and residents alike. Its Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15 campaign will celebrate the emirate’s rich maritime heritage in a distinctly modern context.
Abu Dhabi is committed to staging another world-class stopover, building on the race legacy and galvanising the emirate’s watersports industry. A wealth of sailing centres, yacht charter companies and state-of-the-art marina facilities have all come online over the last 12 months, with more expected, helping establish Abu Dhabi’s status as a leading winter watersports destination.
TCA Abu Dhabi is pushing forward a package-strong and tourism-driven Abu Dhabi stopover, including a fan-friendly Destination Village activation on the Corniche breakwater and multiple concert and entertainment offerings. The campaign will leverage the highly sought-after New Year dates and energise the city, ensuring its involvement in the race once again makes waves for all the right reasons.
