Something about her that you don't know: Carolijn's favourite TV show is The Big Bang Theory. She says it's very nerdy but a great show to wind down and enjoy a laugh.
She speaks: Dutch, English, Portuguese, French, Spanish and German.
Who is she: An accomplished multihull and Olympic sailor who competed in the Sydney, Athens and Beijing Games, with two Volvo Ocean Race campaigns under her belt. She won World Sailor of the Year in 1998, was at the helm of Amer Sports Too in the 2001-02 Volvo Ocean Race and also competed on Team SCA in the 2014-15 edition. She described it as a first class professional project, leading the way for women in professional offshore racing, and so it has proved. Carolijn is back for her third Volvo Ocean Race. Chosen by French Skipper Charles Caudrelier, she will be one of two female sailors competing for Dongfeng Race Team in the 2017-18 edition of the race under the new mixed crew rule.
