2 Previous Volvo Ocean Races
2 Olympic medals
Date of Birth: February 25, 1970

In: Worcester, UK
Status: Married, two daughters
Something about him that you don't know: Ian is a keen golfer and loves squeezing a game in during the stopovers.

He speaks: English.

Who he is: One of Britain’s most successful sailors and a man on a mission for the 2014-15 edition. The former Olympian is keen to make it third time lucky after two campaigns as a Volvo Ocean Race skipper that have left him hungry for victory. After winning silver medals at two Olympics, he turned coach to mastermind Shirley Robertson's gold in 2004, before shifting his focus to ocean racing. In 2008-09, Ian led Green Dragon and then took charge of Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing's debut in the race in 2011-12.

What he said: "It's definitely going to be the tightest race in history. Success will be about not having any bad legs. You have got to have a strong team, you have got to sail fast, keep the boat in one piece, be smart and sail the right way.”
