Something about him that you don't know: Nicknamed 'Ñeti', his latest career milestone includes smashing the legendary Rolex Sydney-Hobart record as one of the watch captains of the Perpetual LOYAL, a 100-foot (30.5 meter) that set a new mark of 1 day, 13 hours, 31 minutes and 2 seconds.
He began sailing 20 years ago at the club he's stayed with his whole life: the Real Club Marítimo de Santander.
He speaks: Spanish and English
Who he is: This will be the fourth Volvo Ocean Race for Ñeti, and his fourth time in the Spanish team, but he is not only a 'Volvo' sailor. Since he made his debut in sailing he sailed in a vast range of classes from dinghies to Olympic sailing to cruising, J Class, Maxis, Supermaxis, Open 60s, Extreme 40s, VO70, extensive racing in TP 52s and of course the VO65.
What he said: "Along with what the solo round the world sailors do, this is the pure essence of sailing - for many days on end, competing non stop, 24 hours a day".
