Status: In a relationship
Something about him that you don't know: David has been living in Hong Kong for several years and is ‘very proud’ to be leading the first ever HK entry into the Volvo Ocean Race – as the region prepares for its first ever stopover in 2018.
He speaks: English.
Who he is: ‘Witty’ is known as a straight shooter on and off the water. An ex-18ft skiff sailor turned skilled heavy weather sailor, having honed his skills in some of the roughest waters in the world during the Sydney-Hobart Race (he’s competed over 20 times), he’s keen to get back into the Southern Ocean and test himself once again in the most remote and extreme regions on the planet. He brings with him a ready-made, solid and experienced Scallywag crew from the 100ft Super Maxi campaign.
What he said: "I had a few chances to do the race over the years, but the reason I always turned them down is that I wanted to do it my way, with my team, in my style. Now, 20 years after my first appearance, I’m back – and surrounded by guys I’d go to war with. I think we’ve got a good chance of winning the trophy.”
