Welcome to the home of Volvo
This is where it all began for Sweden’s most iconic and loved brand – and Sweden doesn’t get much more Swedish than Gothenburg, a city of half a million people, with a long history as a shipping and maritime centre. Take a stroll through the medieval streets of a city with an ice-cool café culture, vibrant restaurants, some serious shopping, and a strong music and club scene.

It faces the northern tip of Denmark across a stretch of water called the Kattegatt. To the northwest lies the Skagerrak and the route to the relatively open waters of the North Sea. The West Coast Archipelago is stunningly beautiful. There are about ten thousand granite islands, small and large, many of them sheltering idyllic villages – but don’t be fooled by all the land around it, the North Sea can be a very rough piece of water.

This place is seriously north – the most northern stop on the race route
At this time of year there is 18 hours of daylight! You will definitely need that jacket though. The daily average is around 15C, but it can range as high as 30C during the day and drop as low as 10C at night. And as this is the west coast, you can also expect some rain. So better to make it waterproof.

How do I get there?

Air: Göteborg Landvetter (GOT)
Train: Gothenburg Central (city centre)
Bus: Nils Ericsson Bus Terminal (city centre)
Alternative: Get a caffeine fix over a relaxed fika, and then take a taxi. A Volvo taxi, naturally.
