For the Volvo Ocean Race 2017-18, Cobham SATCOM will provide the gear that keeps the fleet safe in an emergency situation – with access to all-important telemetry and weather data – and enables the sailors to share their stories to the millions of fans onshore.
Cobham SATCOM doesn’t just supply the satellite communications hardware, but also a wide range of radio and safety equipment. The Volvo Ocean Race is the toughest arena there is, and the ultimate showcase for the company’s products, providing an invaluable link to its key markets globally.
Each race represents a very tough challenge for Cobham SATCOM, who use state-of-the-art technologies to design affordable, highly reliable high-performance systems that have become more efficient over time in terms of size, weight and power consumption.
The company’s relationship with the Volvo Ocean Race stretches back to 2001 – and the race has become increasingly important to Cobham SATCOM as a platform to deliver on multiple business and brand awareness objectives, while serving as the ultimate product test bed. It is the sixth consecutive edition that the satellite communications specialist has supplied hardware to race.
