One of Britain’s most successful sailors, Walker earned his first Olympic silver medal at the 1996 Atlanta Games and won another in Sydney four years later. The father of two girls has also skippered and managed two America’s Cup campaigns and coached Shirley Robertson to an Olympic gold in 2004. He had his first Volvo Ocean Race experience as skipper of Green Dragon in 2008-09 and is confident he has a much better chance of victory this time with a better funded team and a new boat.

The 23-year-old has impeccable credentials, having sailed in the Olympics in 2008 in Beijing and in the Laser world championships the same year. Adil has a young son so he should be used to the sleepless nights on board Azzam.

Satterthwaite is a former America’s Cup winner with Alinghi in 2007 and finished second in the Volvo Ocean Race in 2005 with Pirates of the Caribbean. The 38-year-old Kiwi has taken on the mentor role to Adil Khalid, the 23-year-old Emirati sailor on board, as well as his countryman Butti Ahmed Al Muhairi, currently part of the shore crew.

Born on the Isle of Wight, Salter was a runner-up in his first Volvo Ocean Race campaign with Pirates of the Caribbean in 2005-06 and went one better last time out as navigator with the Ericsson 4 team who stormed to victory. In what was doubtless a great loss to the legal world, Salter, a father of two, trained as a solicitor before giving up the briefcase for the nav station.

One of three members of the team with experience of a winning campaign in the Volvo Ocean Racing, having helped ABN AMRO ONE to victory in 2005-06 under Mike Sanderson. Was also bowman on Steve Fossett’s record-breaking round the world effort in 2004 and sailed with Ian Walker on Green Dragon in the last Volvo Ocean Race.

He was part of the PUMA shorecrew team during the last Volvo Ocean Race and provides the eyes and ears for the outside world as he sends back multimedia reports from Azzam in this race.

Born in Brighton on Britain’s south coast, Greenhalgh has sailed everything from small dinghies to round-the-world yachts. He is another Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing sailor with Volvo Ocean Race success behind him, having joined Slattery on ABN AMRO ONE in 2005-06. In the last race he was second, this time with PUMA, meaning he will be gunning for his third successive podium.

Nicknamed SiFi, Fisher graduated in Law and Chemistry and sailed in the America’s Cup with GBR Challenge as far back as 2001 and again in 2006 with Victory Challenge before making his Volvo Ocean Race debut in 2005-06 with ABN AMRO TWO. He stepped up to take the navigator’s role with Telefónica Blue last time out and had the satisfaction of gaining two leg wins.

BowmanDate of Birth: 05/03/1981Nicknamed Bubs, the 6ft 4in Morgan from Lake Macquarie in New South Wales fills one of the three under-30 slots on board yet he already has an impressive resume, having appeared in two America’s Cup campaigns and with victories in the Sydney Hobart Race and the Fastnet Race under his belt. Morgan heroically jumped into the water to cut Abu Dhabi’s mast free when it came crashing down on Leg 1 of the 2011-12 edition.
