CAMPER with Emirates Team New Zealand

Spanish footwear brand Camper is collaborating with Emirates Team New Zealand to manage their first Volvo Ocean Race campaign. Principal designer Marcelino Botin and the build team at Cookson Boats will provide the boat and with a number of seasoned round-the-world sailors onboard, this team must rank as one of the favourites.

    1. With more than 20 years of professional sailing experience behind him, Chris Nicholson brings a wealth of knowledge to this campaign. His first Volvo Ocean Race appearance was as a watch captain in 2001-02 on Amer Sports One, skippered by Grant Dalton. In 2005-06, he was a watch captain on board Spanish entry Movistar, and was watch captain on PUMA in 2008-09.

      Chris has represented Australia at two Olympics (2000 & 2004) and has won no fewer than six world championships in the 49er and 505 classes.

Pammenter, helped set a new Round Britain and Ireland record in 2010, had to have his mouth stitched up in Leg 1,  suffering cuts to his face and a broken tooth after being slammed into the rigging by a wave. The economics graduate was also in the wars in his first appearance in the race in 2008-09, having to be evacuated from Telefónica Black with an injured foot shortly after the fleet left Rio de Janeiro.
