The Volvo Ocean Race has linked up with on-line media distributor The NewsMarket for global distribution of broadcast video content
Video footage of the Volvo Ocean Race 2008-09 will now be available to global broadcast and online media outlets following an agreement with The NewsMarket for media distribution of its race video content.
The NewsMarket is the online platform for corporations, governments and non-profit organizations to manage, share and exchange their video content.
More than 13,000 media outlets in 193 countries across the globe use The NewsMarket to find video content for news stories. Major users of video content at The NewsMarket include major broadcast outlets, online and print newspapers, news agencies as well as magazines and freelance journalists.
“Working with The NewsMarket for our 2008-2009 race allows the Volvo Ocean Race to make much greater use of our video content and photographs,” said race Communications Director Reg Gratton. “We are particularly excited by The NewsMarket’s global breadth, its fast turnaround, multi-format delivery and its 24-hour operations which are linked to an email alert service.”
The Volvo Ocean Race, which starts in Alicante, Spain, in 12 months, now goes to China and India on its 39,900 nautical mile odyssey around the world.
The NewsMarket has recently launched an Indian portal and will soon launch a Mandarin-language portal, and will feature Volvo Ocean Race content on both country sites. “The NewsMarket will provide us with an excellent platform to access these huge media markets,” said Gratton.
“We are delighted to be working with one of the world’s biggest sporting events like the Volvo Ocean Race, especially as it launches its new route to China and India,” said Shoba Purushothaman, CEO and Co-Founder of The NewsMarket. “The fast-paced, high-tech nature of the event makes digital and global distribution of video a key factor. Our platform will allow Volvo Ocean Race to offer the media 24/7 access to its content on our global, Mandarin and Indian portals – www.thenewsmarket.com, www.thenewsmarket.com/mandarin, and www.thenewsmarket.com/india.”
Race organisers tested The NewsMarket’s capabilities in mid-September with video content of a press conference in St. Petersburg announcing that the 34-year-old event would finish in Russia for the first time. Numerous video clips were ordered by a range of broadcast organisations from CNBC and Eurosport to smaller networks across Europe, including some in Lithuania.
“I think the take-up of the St. Petersburg story proved to us The NewsMarket’s leadership capabilities in video content distribution, and will help us achieve our goal of increasing our reach. It will form a vital part of the change in the way we distribute our news,“ said Gratton.
